The 2013 Poppy Appeal is launching this Friday, and the Whitley Bay and North Shields branches are appealing for people to give generously.
Over £56,691 was raised by the Whitley Bay and North Shields Branch of The Royal British Legion for the Poppy Appeal last year.
Tynemouth MP Alan Campbell supports the branch in their appeal and said: “I would like to thank everyone who gave so generously to the Poppy Appeal and in particular to congratulate the Royal British Legion.
“It is important to our servicemen and women, some of whom are serving in dangerous places overseas, that we support them as well as those who served our country in the past.”
Branch Vice-Chairman Roslyn Hastie-Murray thanks all members of the public who donated to the Poppy Appeal last year and said: “Without the generosity of the people of North Shields and Whitley Bay, we would be unable to support the great work that the Poppy Appeal does.
“It is our volunteers and supporters who form the backbone of the Legion. Without them we would miss not just the money they raise, but the enthusiasm and human touch which they bring to the work they do for us.”
