A borough pub has raised £5,500 for the oncology unit at North Tyneside General Hospital.

Pub manager Bill Kerridge and his colleagues at Shiremoor House Farm, Middle Engine Lane, North Shields, hosted an oyster festival and raffle to raise the money.

Presenting a cheque to the unit, Bill said: “We’re blessed to have such great services .

“It took 18 months to raise the amount and we already have plans for a future donation.

“The service is very close to the hearts of patients that come to the pub after attending the unit for treatment.”

Unit manager Allison Nielsen said: “I am delighted to accept this donation on behalf of the oncology unit.

“It is wonderful that the local community wants to give something back to the unit and this money will go towards providing a garden where patients can go for peace and quiet away from the unit.”
