The popular VW Festival is heading back to Tynemouth again this year.

TYNEMOUTH is set to carry on camping – or, rather, camper-van-ing.

A Volkswagen camper van and car rally held in the village last year proved so popular that another is being lined up for this summer.

More than 4,000 visitors attended last July’s rally, and Tynemouth Business Forum is hoping this year’s will be even busier.

No fewer than 150 vehicles have already signed up for the event, to be held on Saturday, July 28, and more are on a waiting list.

The camper vans will be on show throughout the day, and a host of other activities will be on offer.

The festival will end with a convoy of campers and vintage cars travelling along the coastline from Tynemouth to Whitley Bay. Event organiser Jill Snailham said: “We are delighted to be able to host the event again this year as it proved so popular for exhibitors and visitors alike.

“We have received interest from all over the UK and, despite doubling the size of the event, with both haven car parks being used, we are fully booked and have a waiting list of people keen to exhibit their vehicles.

“Word has certainly spread fast throughout the classic VW community what a fantastic location Tynemouth is.”
