TWO video clubs from North Tyneside have gained first and second places in the northern heat of a national club film competition, ‘North-v-South’, staged in Manchester.

Coast Video Club in Cullercoats won with Foolproof!, a time travel comedy made by club members Rob Brown, Trevor Ermel, Terry Poppelwell, Alex McMath and Eddy Saint.

Tynemouth Video Group came a close second with their comedy Nicely Handeled featuring members John Burton, Rob Brown, David Peffer and Steven Wears.

Both films will now form part of the north’s entry against the best films in the south at a final held in Altrincham in January.

Trevor, 62, who is a member of both clubs, said: “I think it is really great that two clubs within a couple of miles of each other are the top two in this year’s north entry.”

The annual North-v-South competition is organised by Orpington Video and Film Makers for the south and Altrincham Video Society for the north.

Coast Video Club meets at 7pm on Thursday in Thompson Hall, Wallington Avenue, Marden Estate. Call (0191) 253 3431 for details.
