Volunteers who have helped support a charity for ten years are to bring their fundraising efforts to a close.

Rebecca Seal and a group of volunteers have been running a nearly new baby, children’s and maternity wear sale four times a year as part of Friends of CHUF.

We have absolutely loved running the sales and want to acknowledge the support of everyone who has made them such a great success

Their next sale will be on Sunday, September 6, with their last ever event on Sunday, November 29. Both take place at the Linskill Centre, North Shields, from 10am.

All proceeds from the events go towards the Children’s Heart Unit Fund (CHUF), which raises money for the Children’s Heart Unit at the Freeman Hospital.

Rebecca said: “All the volunteers have older children who are growing fast and, with other demands on our time, we felt the time was right to draw things to a close.

“We have absolutely loved running the sales and want to acknowledge the support of everyone who has made them such a great success.”

“We have met amazing people and will fully support CHUF in all the ways we can in the future.”

She added: “When we first started the sales we raised money for a national charity but five years ago we started looking for a new local charity to support.

“A good friend of the committee had tragically lost their three-day-old son and the Freeman Hospital were vital in supporting the family so we had a strong leaning towards them.

“At around the same time we stumbled across a YouTube clip of fellow North Tyneside CHUF fundraiser Ivan Hollingsworth skiing down an alpine mountain in just a mankini! Inspired by his commitment, we dedicated our efforts to supporting CHUF.”

The sales have raised the fantastic sum of £6,000 for CHUF so far and the committee hope to have raised another £1,000 when they hand over their final cheque in December.

Ivan Hollingsworth, who is now a parent trustee for CHUF, said: “What Rebecca and the volunteers have done is incredible.

“On behalf of CHUF, I’d like to publicly thank them all for such amazing support over the years and it’s my hope that their final two events will be brilliantly supported.

“They deserve our deepest gratitude.”

Friends of CHUF operate a dedicated Facebook page for the sales, which can be found by typing ‘Nearly new sales for CHUF’ into Facebook. Those interested in taking a table at the remaining sales can contact Rebecca via the Facebook page.
