Walk offers strength to domestic abuse victims

DOZENS of people took part in a poignant walk to highlight the hidden problem of domestic abuse.

The four-mile DIVA (Don’t Ignore Violence and Abuse) walk involved those who have experienced abuse and support organisations including Acorns, Harbour and the local council.

At the end of the walk, from Tynemouth Priory to St Mary’s Lighthouse, there were 50 ‘balloons of freedom’ released.

Domestic abuse affects around one in four women and one in six men at some point.

Last year in North Tyneside there were over 4,000 reported incidents of abuse.
