A DOTING dad from Wallsend has nominated his brave daughter for a top award.
On July 4 the red carpet will be adorned by the region’s brightest stars as The Children’s Foundation recognise the achievements of north east children with disabilities and those who care for and support them.
Six-year-old Emily was born with a Cloacal Anomaly, a rare and complex disorder through which Emily bravely battles every day.
Not only has she received over 100 surgical procedures to date, she has suffered the loss of a kidney, and copes with severe incontinence and extensive medication.
Dad Dave said: “Emily will face more surgery throughout her life and will continue to find even the simplest of tasks a challenge, but she remains a very happy little girl and shows others it’s ok that she has this conditionthat in itself is a major achievement.”
Earlier this year Dave attempted the world’s first 379 mile marathon along a Siberian lake to raise money for The Children’s Foundation’s Great North Children’s Hospital Appeal.
The Territorial Army lance corporal with the Fifth Battalion Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, battled temperatures as low as -40 in his bid to complete the marathon, but had to bow out with frostbite and hypothermia.
Emily is not alone, but stands out as a shining example of resilience, determination and courage.
Libby Nolan, fundraising manager at The Children’s Foundation, said: “The awards aim to recognise the achievements of children in the North East with a disability, their friends and families, the challenges they face on a daily basis, reward their accomplishments and raise awareness of important issues to ensure equal opportunities.
“There are many children across our region, on our doorsteps, who teach us to live life to the fullest and put in the performance of their lives every single day.
“The Children’s Foundation Stars Awards will recognise their achievements and show each nominee that they are our true ‘A Listers’.”
The Stars Awards will take place on Wednesday, July 4, from noon to 2pm at the Platinum Suite, Newcastle Falcons, Kingston Park, Newcastle.
