An appeal has been launched for people to attend the funeral of a war hero who has died in North Tyneside.
Burma veteran John Campbell died in North Tyneside General Hospital last week at the age of 92, and will be buried at Whitley Bay Crematorium on Thursday, April 3, at 2.15pm.
But Mr Campbell has no known relatives or friends, and the community is calling on anyone who would like to give him a fitting send off to attend his funeral.
Ray McGough, from Tynemouth, said: “He died with no one there and we think he won’t have anyone at his funeral.
“He was 92 and he fought for our country, he should be given a send off he deserves.
“I don’t think it’s right that he goes without anyone showing their respects for the man, he should be remembered.”
