Police in Whitley Bay are appealing for witnesses following a spate of anti-social behaviour.
Officers have received nine reports of raw eggs being thrown at homes in the Whitley Lodge area.
The incidents happened over several months between 6pm and 10.40pm with the most recent incident on Wednesday, January 21, at 7.30pm.
Homes in Longridge Drive and Kingston Drive have been pelted with eggs and most recently tomato ketchup. Local youths aged 14 to 16 have been seen in the area at the time of the incidents.
This has caused concern for residents, particularly elderly people, who also have to clear up the resulting mess.
Police have been in contact with local schools about the problem and they have said they will take firm action if any of their pupils are found to be involved.
Neighbourhood Pc Julie Twigg said: “We are taking these incidents seriously and are making enquiries to trace those responsible.
“We want to make it clear that this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated.”
Anyone with information should contact police on 101, extension 69191.
