A video showcasing the beauty of the North Tyneside coastline has left its maker in shock at its reaction.
Chris Ainsley used a drone to film the coastline at Whitley Bay and Tynemouth.
And within hours of posting it on Facebook, it has been viewed more than 65,000 times and shared nearly 2,000 times – with the figures continuing to grow.
Key landmarks featured in the 100-second video include St Mary’s Island and Lighthouse, Tynemouth Longsands, Collingwood Monument and Tynemouth Priory and Castle.
Chris, an operations manager at Jam Jar Cinemas in Whitley Bay, said: “I didn’t anticipate this. I didn’t realise Facebook had this kind of presence.
“I thought the video was good and interesting, and it might get a couple of hundred views but surprised it passed 65,000 views.
“I got the drone last December and did a couple of short videos. I then got it out in May but wasn’t sure what to do with it as it was just flying footage and no narrative.
“I showed my grandmother and she said I had to do more with it.
“During August, every day off I was out flying and filming. I had a list of landmarks that I wanted to include. I spent about a month filming it.
“I finished the editing on Tuesday on a train back from London.”
He added: “As this has been so well received, I’ll look to do another one. Maybe the Quayside and central Newcastle or up in Northumberland.
“For me, the coastal walk from Whitley Bay to Tynemouth is the best in the world.”
