Twenty-five years ago we were told that the land from Presaton Village to Shiremoor was green belt and would never be built on.
But Morrisons, Preston Grange estate and North Tyneside General Hospital were all built on half of this land.
At present the council is spending millions on flood defences on the remaining land.
But now, I am told, there are plans to build 5,500 homes (80 streets) on this land, which could destroy these new flood defences.
Also, we will lose two country lanes, one bridleway and four footpaths through a pleasant rural landscape.
We will lose our last bit of open land west of Whitley Bay.
Why don’t they build these homes between Killingworth and Backworth on land served by Northumberland Park metro station?
