On Sunday, August 3, I attended the First World Commemoration event at Northumberland Square, North Shields, organised by the Tynemouth World War 1 Commemoration Project team that resides in Room B9 at the old Linskill School in North Shields.
What a splendid event this was.
I would also thank Alan Fidler, Linda and all the project volunteers of this Tynemouth project team who must have worked so long and hard to produce this event.
A thank you must also go to all the other people who also gave up a Sunday in order to provide the interesting stalls that supported this event.
This includes those at St Columbus Church who provided welcome refreshments, and including a special mention to the lady who produced the lovely First World War table decorations.
I must also mention the exceptional First World War display that the Tynemouth project team have produced at North Shields Library.
Every youngster in the area should be shown this in order to read and see how many families suffered as a result of the ultimate sacrifice men of these families made in order that freedom was obtained and we can live the way we do today.
Well done the whole team at Tynemouth World War 1 Commemoration Project.
