Wet clothes found on beach

EVIDENCE of a late night dip sparked a rescue investigation.

Two pairs of shoes and two sets of underpants were found at Cullercoats Bay above the high-water mark at 8.45am on Thursday, February 16.

As the clothes were wet, it was assumed they had been abandoned after being worn in the sea during a late-night dip.

Members of Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade spoke to the coastguard and police, but as no one had been reported missing it was decided they had been dumped.
