First class service is all in a day’s work for apprentice Ryan Hall – and now he is set to prove it on the international stage.

The 20-year-old has been chosen as a Colleague of the Year for the Europe Hotel Star Awards within the InterContinental Hotel Group for his work at the Crowne Plaza Newcastle.

The Whitley Bay resident started an intermediate apprenticeship in food and beverage service at the hotel in November 2015.

And in December last year he progressed to an advanced apprenticeship in hospitality, leadership and supervision.

Ryan said: “The past 15 months have been nothing but incredible for me as I’ve found a job I absolutely love.

“Everyone feels a bit worried leaving high school so it’s great to have landed on my feet and prove people wrong who thought I would never make it. I try to fully appreciate every opportunity that comes my way.”

The award recognises someone who has gone the extra mile to drive outstanding guest satisfaction as part of a team.

Crowne Plaza HR manager Jane Klotz said: “What sets Ryan apart from the rest is his vision, his confidence and most of all, his contagious energy. He has a fantastic ‘can do’ attitude.”

The Europe Hotel Star Awards will be announced in Berlin on March 29.
