A SERIES of streets in Whitley Bay have reopened after a diesel spillage this morning.

Commuters were forced to change their routes this morning (Friday) after a bus leaked diesel on Marden Road South in the town.

Police and the fire service cordoned off several roads to allow for a clean-up operation to take place after the spillage at 8.30am this morning.

A police spokesperson said the situation had caused a couple of minor collisions due to cars slipping on the diesel, but no one was injured.

The roads were reopened just after 12.30pm today.
