Students at a specialist college are learning the benefits of gaining an insight into life at work by taking part in this year’s national Work Experience Week.
Pupils at The Percy Hedley Foundation’s specialist college have been taking part in the event that highlights the benefits for both employers and the young people who gain from a quality experience in a real live work situation.
Percy Hedley College is working alongside local employers on a series of workshops which will allow the students to increase their knowledge, confidence and familiarity with employment to ensure a smooth transition into the workplace.
It also gives businesses a working knowledge of the students and creates an understanding of each individual’s needs and abilities.
Lynn Watson, director of education at the foundation, said: “Work experience, willingly undertaken, helps young people build sustainable careers and employers to recruit the staff they need.
“Our pupils and students in our specialist schools and college aspire to be in the world of work, to be in employment.”
