Improvements have begun at a park which is popular with residents and wildlife.
A project is under way to address the problems caused by the large swan and geese population at Killingworth Lakeside Park, as well as routine maintenance work.
Plans include wildflower meadow planting, new picnic benches, signage, and a community noticeboard.
Routine maintenance includes paths being resurfaced and water levels reduced for the lake’s kerb edging to be replaced. Low level fencing will be erected around certain paths, grassed areas restored, and a stone ramp created for the birds to preen.
The floating island, previously removed due to damage by the birds, will be refurbished and reinstated.
