Work has started on a new skatepark and multi-use games area for Richardson Dees Park.
The skatepark, set to open next month, will offer a range of ramps and jumps for skaters, BMX bikes and scooters – completing the comprehensive play opportunities already on offer in the open space.
Local children, young people and residents were involved in designing the skatepark.
Team sports are also catered for, with the new games area marked out for basketball, netball, five-a-side football and cricket.
The work is part of a major programme of improvements to Wallsend parks being carried out by North Tyneside Council.
Coun Eddie Darke, cabinet member for leisure, culture and tourism, said: “The skatepark and games area will appeal to a broad range of people from different age groups.
“We hope these fantastic new facilities will be enjoyed not only by our existing park users, but also new visitors who will come along to the park to try them out.”
