WORKS: You must complain to get a response

In response to Danielle Walker’s complaint about grass verges not being re-instated (News Guardian, March 10), it is worth noting the following.

The utility companies that regularly dig up expanses of grassed areas will not reinstate them as you would expect as this costs money.

Councils do not enforce this as a matter of course and wait until they receive a complaint from a member of the public. They will then instruct them to reinstate.

You could also ring the company directly.

Do nothing and the environmental vandals win.
