Dog lovers are being invited to make the paw-fect gift for their four-legged friends.

Whitley Bay Big Local has teamed up with Crafty Angels to help visitors make toys from old T-shirts for their own pets or create a batch for the Newcastle Cat and Dog Shelter.

The event will take place at the Big Local’s shop in Park View on Saturday from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

Crafty Angels was set up in 2014 by Helen Bramhall and is now a thriving social enterprise which reinvests 15 per cent of its profits in to community workshops.

Sarah Sutton, of Whitley Bay Big Local, said: “What a great way to start the summer holidays. We hope people will come along and make toys which they can take away for a £1.50 donation or pass them on to the animals at the Cat and Dog Shelter.”

Helen added: “It’s great to be able to bring our workshops to Whitley Bay and let people in the town get involved in fun craft activities. We always love days like this as often people get involved in craft for the first time and realise that you needn’t have expert skills to turn disused items in to something useful.”
