Young musical acts to battle it out

YOUNG musicians are battling it out on Saturday for a chance to perform at the Mouth of the Tyne Festival.

A total of 13 acts will take to the stage at this year’s Event @ Segedunum – an outdoor musical festival for 11 to 19-year-olds held in the grounds of Wallsend’s Segedunum Roman Fort and Baths.

And the best act of the afternoon, as voted for by the crowd, will be given the unique chance to perform at the Mouth of the Tyne Festival the following weekend, sharing the bill with international artists including McFly and The Wanted.

The event, now in its second year, has been orchestrated by North Tyneside’s Young Mayor Jade Hope, who aims to create a summer event to bring the borough’s young people together, as well as showcase local talent.

She said: “The Event is going to be brilliant this year – the acts are such good quality and of a great variety so there’s going to be something for everyone. I’m really looking forward to it.”

Only 1,000 wristbands have been released for the event, and are on sale at North Tyneside Council’s sport centres, priced at just £3.

The confirmed bands that will play are:

• Atticus Academy;

• Big Figure;

• Cal Fraser;

• Correction House;

• Fired;

• Hakara;

• High Rollers;

• Katy Wright;

• Lisbon;

• The Mojags;

• Simon Evans;

• Street Party in Soho;

• Swiss Alpine Club.
