CLOSURE: Baffled by loss of beds

During the recent debate about the shortage of hospital beds, I seem to have missed any mention regarding the closure by North Tyneside Council of The Cedars in North Shields.

Having been a beneficiary of this 30-bed unit, with its excellent staff, I find it baffling.

If the council blames a lack of cash for modernisation, perhaps it can run past us again the thinking behind the plan to purchase, for a reported £900,000, a crane, which has remained unused.
