I TAKE note of Nathan Allonby’s worries about data-sharing (News Guardian, letters, March 24), but I believe that the joint service centre planned for the site in York Road is of huge importance for the revival of Whitley Bay town centre.
The problem with the town centre is not enough people are walking the streets and popping into shops.
It is to be hoped the centre and library will bring many more people into the town centre on foot or using public transport.
I was dismayed when the plan was rejected by the planning committee on the grounds that there was not enough provision for car parking.
We have to start catering for pedestrians and cyclists rather than cars in the town centre.
