TYNEMOUTH hosted Sunderland in the penultimate league fixture of the 2008 season.
Sunderland batted first and soon lost Nunn, lbw to Barry Stewart for four.

Stewart then struck twice more with another lbw and a catch by Scott Thornton.

Opener Mustard was riding the early storm with Grant Lindsay also delivering some lively b
owling.

A catch by David Hymers opened Lindsay's account as he claimed 1-17 compared with partner Stewart's 3-23.

Sunderland were in trouble at this stage and skipper Graeme Hallam introduced Andrew Smith and Hymers.

Hymers did well with 3-25 including the eventual wicket of Mustard, bowled for 57.

No other Sunderland batsman made double figures as they were dismissed for only 117.

In reply Hallam resumed his opening slot but soon lost several partners.

Scott Thornton, Tony Lion and Lindsay all collected ducks.

Dan Young was then lbw to Rushworth for five, bringing Barry Stewart to the crease.

Hallam and Stewart progressed the score for the fifth wicket but both were dismissed when set in the 20s.

Hallam (26) and Stewart (23) did not quite do enough to guide Tynemouth through.

Although Smith was left on ten not out, the other wickets tumbled and Tynemouth fell 42 runs short when dismissed for a paltry 75.

Tynemouth are now down to a disappointing tenth in the table after good early season performances.

A weakened Tynemouth second team travelled to Ashbrook to play Sunderland and came away with little reward for their efforts.

Tynemouth stand-in skipper Steve Mordue won the toss and elected to bat.

Youngsters Greg Hollins and Andrew Davison started in confident fashion adding 31 in nine overs before Davison lost his off stump for nine.

Hollins was playing beautifully until he was harshly adjudged lbw to Ferguson for 19.

With the score at 50, Matthew Brown got a leading edge and was caught at extra cover for ten.

This heralded the start of a batting collapse.

Andy Lineham was lbw without scoring, and when Mark Davison was bowled for eight, Tynemouth were in deep trouble at 52-5.

Hayward was next to go for ten followed by Russell Perry caught and bowled for seven.

Ben Richardson was then bowled around his legs for eight, followed soon after by Snelders bowled for four.

Mordue was trapped in front for one leaving Ryan Bailey not out seven and Tynemouth all out for a poor 89.
