THE 101st year of North Shields Polytechnic Athletics Club saw their annual awards presentation held in their recently refurbished headquarters at Churchill Playing Fields.
As one of the longest established athletic clubs in the north east and one of only a few that have an excellent running track on which a lot of hours training is put in, it is fitting that the clubhouse boasts good facilities too.
A well equipp
ed gym, newly installed heating and comfortable seating area will soon be complimented with new showers in the changing rooms.
The club meets from 6pm Tuesday and Thursday evenings, whatever the weather and members often organize further training sessions as well as social trips. Children from the age of eight years are more than welcome and will receive expert advice on all aspects of athletics.
Also adults of all ages and abilities can come along, do as much or as little as they want and make new friends.
There were many trophies awarded during the presentation evening, including one to Rob Walker who won the 10k cup and Tommy Brannon picked up the cross country shield 16 years after first winning it!.
That has to be the comebacks of all comebacks! Catherine Davis collected the Formica and King Street Club Cup for the fastest lady in the final Grand Prix event of the season.
So anyone out there who needs that extra little push to begin an exercise programme, come along to the clubhouse this week. You will be made more than welcome and be fitter and healthier before Christmas!
