WHITLEY Bay Women are back in FA Cup action this weekend when they take on Rochdale in the second round of the competition.
Whitley have come through qualifying matches against Teesside Athletic, Birtley and Sheffield FC and a First Round match against Blackpool Wrens that saw the Bay run out 7-1 winners.

They are one of the few remaining teams that have progressed through the Qualifying stages and will hope to progress further this Sunday in the competition.

Bay currently lie top of the North East Regional Premier Division and are unbeaten this season.

Rochdale entered the Cup at the First round stage and won away to Hull with a comprehensive 9-0 win.

They play a League higher than Whitley in the Northern Combination, which they top having played ten games, winning eight, drawing once and losing once.

The game promises to be entertaining, with both sides known for their attacking flair and ability to score goals, as the last Round indicated.

Whitley go into the game as underdogs against a Rochdale side with ambitions for promotion and Premier League football, but that has never bothered the Coast outfit, who have an impressive FA Cup record against higher league sides.

Manager Colin Phillips said: "This will be our toughest game of the season and we will have to work hard to contain a free scoring Rochdale side.

"It will be a good test of how far we have come in recent years and we can't wait for the game to start."

The match kicks off at 1pm on Sunday at Hillheads, Hillheads Road, Whitley Bay.
