PERCY Main and Gosforth Bohemians served up a pulsating Longhorn Hardware League Cup tie at a rain lashed Benson Park as The Villagers came from a 2-1 second half deficit to snatch the tie deep into injury time courtesy of Mick Freathy's late winner.
Facing the elements in the first half, Percy Main were once again slow out of the blocks as the home side made virtually all the running during the opening third of the game and threatened the visitors goal from the off.

With just over a minute pl
ayed, Villagers custodian Kevin Long did well to tip Harry Tulip's effort over the bar.

Danny Sherwood was thwarted by a superb block by Dean Morgan, while Tulip once again tested Long with a shot from distance.

Gosforth's Paul Menton was the next to threaten with a drive from the edge of the area before Tulip sent two further efforts in successive minutes just over the angle.

The Main rallied and grew in confidence and took the lead on 32 minutes as Lee Gray's deep cross from out wide on the left fell to Tony Browell who powerfully headed home.

The visitors lead was to last only five minutes as Ben Guy up-ended by Morgan on the left, sent in a measured free kick himself, which deceived The Villagers defence and Tulip bundled home from close range.

In the second half Sherwood ran down the left and fired against Long's crossbar, but the lurking Guy, quickest to react, stabbed the ball home to put his side ahead for the first time in the contest.

With twelve minutes remaining parity was restored as Ritchie's run and stinging drive was palmed behind by Crammond and from the resultant corner substitute Liam Knox headed home his first goal for the club.

Two minutes later it appeared that Knox would put his side ahead having rounded Crammond, only to see Bohemians' Dan Cocoran make a desperate, sliding goal line clearance with perhaps a hint of handball.

With the game almost at it's conclusion, Percy Main struck in deadly fashion as Steven Shadforth's long ball from defence reached Mick Freathy who ran on to slot past the desperate dive of Crammond.

Percy Main are in cup action again next Saturday and will travel to Northern Alliance Premier Division side Seaton Delaval in the Northumberland Senior Bowl, kick-off at Wheatridge Park is 2pm.
