PRESTON Grange and a combined Denbigh/Battle Hill school team competed well in the Tyne and Wear schools tennis finals last weekend at Puma Sunderland Tennis Centre.
The combined Denbigh/Battle Hill team of James Roy, Paulo Duterte, Callum Toth, Craig Notley, Samantha Booth, Sara Zientara, Lauren Charlesworth and Alisha Iddon did well to qualify through the North Tyneside event and did well in their first regional tournament.

Despite Valley Gardens winning the North Tyneside qualifying event they were unable to field a team so runners-up Preston Grange competed with girls from Valley Gardens.

For the Preston Grange team Sean Longstaff did really well winning six out of seven matches whilst Cameron Mitchell, Lewis Price and Adam Blakey all won more matches than they lost.

In the girls event, due to illness, Preston Grange/Valley were only able to field a team of two out of four.

Joanne Cooper and Beth Wilson still managed to keep up the motivation to win four and five out of six matches respectively meaning the depleted team of six finished in sixth place out of eight on the day.

Tennis coach Aaron Mpofu and tennis development officer Stuart Cass were really pleased with the team's attitude and commitment on the day.

The eventual winners were South Boldon.
