A BOXER from Cullercoats is celebrating picking up a national title less than two years after taking up the sport.
After only 20 months in the ring, Lawrence Osueke, 21, has become British Light Heavyweight Champion at the tri-nations ABA tournament in Liverpool.

Lawrence took on Scottish champion James Quigley and achieved victory using his legendary double left jab over three rounds, taking the title 10 points to 7.

Trained by his uncle, former local professional heavyweight, Manny Burgo, Lawrence is the third generation of his family to have a boxing career and now has his sights on representing his country at the Commonwealth Games and possibly London 2012 Olympics.
