PERCY Park Rugby Club was host to the final competition in the inaugural National Touch Rugby Series of 2008.
The competition was brought to the region by the efforts of England Touch International Lesley McCallion and organised with the help of husband Seamus and members and friends at Percy Park RFC.

Teams from Cambridge, London, Manchester, Cardiff and
Nottingham were joined by local teams from Newcastle Estates, Percy Park and Sage/Blackadders to stage a first class competition.

Cambridge Hornets went into the competition trailing the London Otters, the series leaders, by two points but ended the day on a high after overtaking Otters to win the national competition, as well as being overall winners of the Newcastle round.

Perfect Motion, from Nottingham, won the Plate competition, beating Percy Park Pirates in the final.

Percy Park organised a family fun day to run alongside this major competition so that parents, children and supporters also had an enjoyable day.

On the Sunday there was a relaxing get together on Tynemouth Longsands where teams played beach touch and the weather allowed our visitors to appreciate Tynemouth at its best.

Touch Rugby is one of the fastest growing sports in the country. It is minimal contact with no tackles or scrums.

A social evening runs at Percy Park RFC, Preston Avenue on Thursdays, 7pm.

For details contact Lesley McCallion on 07816 220167 or check the Percy Park RFC website.
