ROCKCLIFF'S pre-season preparation came to a close with a robust encounter against Wallsend.
Despite the visitors being coached by Newcastle Falcons prop Mickey Ward, the home pack held their own, however, a shortage of back line power proved to be Rockcliff's undoing.

Noel Mather opened a 5-0 lead for Rockcliff and Rob Byrne converted but Wallsend edged into the lead and held out to win.

DESPITE a good 40-minute spell of pressure the Vikings could not find the scores to narrow the gap against Wallsend.

Tries from John Dixon and Alun James and a Chris Foster conversion were not a fair reflection of the possession the home side had, but the Wallsend defence did well to keep Rockcliff out.
