NEWCASTLE United legend Alan Shearer is urging football fans from the region to pack the terraces of St James' Park this month to raise money for the Bobby Robson Foundation.
United's number one Goalkeeper Steve Harper is also supporting the cause, which will see a re-match of the England v Germany game from the 1990 World Cup.

The match will take place on Sunday, July 26, and both players, who played under Sir Bobby,
see this as the ideal opportunity for fans to say thank you for the service he gave Newcastle United by raising the roof at St James' Park and raising a significant amount of money for his cancer charity.

Ticket sales are steady and in line with expectations however, with just over four weeks to go, demand is likely to increase significantly as fans secure their seats for this special night on Tyneside.

Paying tribute to his former manager, Alan Shearer said: "Sir Bobby turned this club around when they were at the bottom of the Premier League. He will always be remembered for that.

"He is a fantastic man and he did some great things for Newcastle. He had the chance to put something back into his hometown team and he took it.

"When he was here he did some great things for us. We all remember the 8-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday.

"And I have plenty of fond memories from my career of the time he was at Newcastle. I thought that time was a good time to play for Newcastle United.

"It was a bit of a roller-coaster as well but we achieved a lot."

Steve Harper is one of only handful players who played under Sir Bobby at Newcastle who still remain at the club and it is clear he still feels great respect and affection for his former manager.

Steve says: "He's been a great servant in football and it would be great to give him one final game in a testimonial sense.

"It would be great if the players and the fans can show the appreciation for the job he has done.

"He is still very much part of Newcastle. He still turned up at every home game last season to support us.

"It's well documented the troubles he's had. But it shows the fighting spirit he has and the character of the man to get out and show his support for his local football team."

The Sir Bobby Robson Trophy will raise funds for The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and will re-unite players from Sir Bobby's 1990 World Cup squad alongside a select number of celebrities and local heroes.

Players like Peter Beardsley, Des Walker, Paul Parker, Steve Hodge, Peter Shilton and Paul Gascoigne are all looking to change history for just one night.

The Sir Bobby Robson Trophy will be played on Sunday 26 July at St James Park and kicks off at 6.15pm.

Tickets are £10 for adults and £5 for children and can be purchased online now at www.nufc.co.uk and www.ticketmaster.co.uk and by calling 0844 372 1892.
