Success for Battle Hill Judo Club at Carlisle

SIX students from Battle Hill Judo Club journeyed to Carlisle to enter the Cumbrian Open Judo Championship.
The event fought under BJA and IJF rules was well attended with almost 300 competitors from England, Scotland and Wales.

Tonicha Brown secured the first medal with a silver in the U12 years girls' U32kg event, followed by her sister Tasmin with a silver in the U60kg ladies' category.

Tasmin earned her award well with three well fought wins from four contests.

Marc Chirnside was runner-up in the boys over 55kg group, while Kieran Tweedy secured a bronze award in the U10 years U27kg, winning all bar one contest.

Frazer Burns followed suit in the boys' U38kg event, where he was narrowly defeated by the current British champion in that weight group, and followed with two wins to achieve a bronze.

A further bronze award was won by Joe Cotcher in the largest group of the day the U12 years U38kgs.

Joe fought through five rounds of contests, with only one defeat.

The club operates from Churchill Community College on a Wednesday evening.
