WHITLEY BAY Cricket Club First XI finally get the 2008 season underway with a home fixture at their West Park Ground against local rivals New Hartley, 1.30pm start on Saturday.
First team captain and all rounder Ivan Pearson leads his team into what will hopefully be a promotion campaign.

The Seasiders welcome young all rounder Abdullah Hashmiri to their ranks for this season.

Abdullah is representing the club as their overseas player and plays at a high standard in his native Melbourne, Australia.

Meanwhile the clubs Second XI, lead by captain Lennie May, take on Monkseaton at Churchill Playing Fields, 1.30pm start, in an eagerly awaited local derby in a deciding Beverley Cup tie.

The winner will progress into the semi-final.

Hopefully the club's Sunday side will have played their first fixture in the Hetton Lyons Sunday League after two postponements due to the weather.

Anyone who would like to join the Whitley Bay Cricket Club should turn up on a Saturday or Tuesday evening.

The club offers a game of cricket at all levels for anyone interested – young or old.
