A NORTH Tyneside teenager has become one of the country's youngest ever professional snooker players after winning a competition in Glasgow.
Stephen Craigie from Walkerville scooped the European U19s title earlier this month, which also granted him professional status.
The 17-year-old fought off tough competition from competitors from eight other countries to win the title.
He endured long gruelling days of consecutive games from the Saturday until Thursday during the tournament in Glasgow.
But the teenager took it in his stride and emerged victorious from the competition.
His mother Susan expressed the family's pride at Stephen's achievements: "It still hasn't sunk in yet; it's absolutely fantastic."
After spending a couple of days at home with his family in Peartree Gardens, Stephen was on the road again – this time to a competition in Sheffield.
He is one of the youngest snooker players to turn professional since Stephen Hendrie.
