Battling display sees Cullercoats progress in the cup

CULLERCOATS battled through to the second round of the East Division Cup with an entertaining win over a well-organised Wallsend side.

Cullercoats opened the scoring when a cross/shot deceived the Wallsend keeper but Wallsend got a deserved equaliser soon after.

Cullercoats again restored their lead with a close range shot but were pegged back by Wallsend who made it 2-2.

In the second half, Cullercoats went 3-2 in front but once more, Wallsend hit back to tie things up.

Again Cullercoats showed great character and Charlie James scored on 45 minutes before a controversial goal late on wrapped up the points.

• Cullercoats U12 held a fundraising night at the Crust Tandoori in North Shields to raise funds for the club.

The night was a great success and raised money for the club’s development fund.
