Candlish goal seals points for United second string

Ponteland United Reserves returned from the trip to Stobswood Welfare with three points after Myles Candlish netted the only goal of a tight encounter.

Pont will be harbouring hopes of a successful conclusion to the season, with a top-three finish still possible and a cup final to come.

Bottom of the table Newcastle Chemfica Reserves held Newcastle East End to a 2-2 draw for the second time this season. Nik Watson and Osas Samson scored for Chemfica, with Alex Simpson and Mario Savutka ensuring the spoils were shared.

Second-from-bottom Killingworth YPC also claimed a point as they held leaders North Shields Athletic Reserves to a goalless draw in a match which ended ten-a-side.

Bedlington Juniors closed the gap at the top to just a point, with two games in hand, as Trae Rowlandson scored the only goal of their game at Wardley.

Gosforth Bohemian Reserves are also in contention, six points adrift of Bedlington, after strikes from David Hodgson and Dean Keith earned them a 2-0 win at Blyth Town Development.

Newbiggin Hall made it three wins in a row as they triumphed 4-2 at Ryton and Crawcrook Albion Reserves. Both Jonathan Anderson and Shaun Cheetham bagged braces for Newbiggin Hall, with Chris Henderson doing the same for Ryton.

Forest Hall beat Newcastle Medicals 3-0, with Michael Embleton scoring twice and Mark Patterson also on the scoresheet.

The league are on the lookout for potential new clubs for the 2016-17 season, as well as potential new management committee members including anyone interested in being league secretary.
