Cullercoats beaten by North Tyneside neighbours

Cullercoats suffered a home defeat at the hands of North Tyneside neighbours Longbenton on Saturday.

Both teams created chances in an even first half, but the visitors made the breakthrough to take a 1-0 half-time lead.

Cullercoats hit back immediately after the break with a well taken finish inside the box by striker Dean McCarthy, who went on to score a second on the hour to put the home side 2-1 ahead.

But Longbenton equalised and grabbed a third goal on 85 minutes to regain the lead.

Cullercoats pushed for an equaliser, but in injury time Longbenton grabbed a fourth on the break to make the final score 4-2.

Cullercoats entertain Hexham in the league on Saturday with a 2.30pm kick-off.
