PERCY Main’s attractive Northumberland Senior Benevolent Bowl home semi-final tie against Ashington Colliers was disappointingly washed out along with much of last weekend’s Northern Alliance fixtures due to heavy rainfall the previous evening.
The Main will try again this Saturday to host The Colliers with the game once again scheduled for 2pm at Purvis Park.
The winners of the tie will face Seaton Delaval in the final after they accounted for Walker Central by an emphatic 5-0 margin at Monkchester Road last Saturday.
Percy Main and Ashington met in a league encounter at Colliers’s Hirst Park ground earlier on this season.
On that occasion the Villagers overturned a 1-0 half-time deficit courtesy of an own goal o take the points with a much improved second half showing, where they were indebted to strikes from Ashley Smyth and Jon McEnaney to win the game.
The sides were drawn together at the same stage of the 2008-09 Bowl competition, when playing their football a division beneath the Colliers.
On that occasion the Main took the lead as Lindsay Collinson’s stinging drive was turned in by player/manager Jason Ritchie only to see Ashington’s Richie Brown level matters not long after the interval.
But Joe Betts was on hand to hit the winner for the North Tyneside outfit as the game drew to its conclusion.
Percy Main still hold an interest in the George Dobbins League Cup and will travel to play Heaton Stannington at the quarter-final stage on a date still to be decided.
They also have 11 league fixtures during the month of April as the Alliance seeks to rearrange the host of games lost to the weather during the course of the campaign.
