WILL Marron was the envy of thousands of football fans last weekend as he escorted a top England player on to the Wembley turf.

The 11-yeard-old Manchester City fan from North Shields was one of the selected mascots for his team as they took on their big rivals Manchester United in Sunday’s Community Shield.

And Will was put with former Newcastle United winger James Milner for the pre-match presentations.

The occasion completed a wonderful day for the youngster as he also met England’s 1966 World Cup winning hero Sir Geoff Hurst.

Will said: “Sunday was such an exciting day.

“We went to London the night before the game, met Sir Geoff Hurst at the hotel in the morning, before going to Wembley for rehearsals.

“The best part was waiting in the tunnel with all of the Manchester City and Manchester United players around us.”

Unfortunately for Will, not everything went his way – his team lost a two-goal half-time lead and were beaten by an injury time winner for United.
