Newcastle Medicals finally ended a run of 11 consecutive defeats in all competitions as they came back from 2-0 down at half-time to beat Ponteland United Reserves 4-2 in the Tyneside Amateur League division two.
Three goals in the space of four minutes on the hour turned the game in their favour, with the killer fourth coming in added time. James Andrew Burns bagged a brace for Medicals with Andrew Hall and John Steel also on the scoresheet.
Hazlerigg Victory won for the 14th consecutive league game to move another step closer to the division two title. They won 2-0 at Tynemouth with the goals netted by Richard Coulson and Sean Gent, guaranteeing promotion in the process.
New York beat North Shields Town 3-1, with goals from Danny Henderson (2) and Paul Jordan. Steven Robinson netted the sole reply for Town.
The only division one game played saw Newcastle Chemfica Reserves return to the top with a 2-1 win in a tough encounter at Wardley. Aaron Coote scored for Wardley, but Craig Robinson and Nick Lord were on target for the leaders.
West Jesmond will fly the flag for the league in the last 16 of the Northumberland FA Minor Cup after they saw off Seghill 5-2 after extra time, with the game having finished level at 2-2 in the 90 minutes.
Unfortunately the league’s other four representatives were knocked out by higher level opposition.
Newcastle East End went down 4-0 to Newcastle Chemfica, Stobswood Welfare lost 4-1 to Willington Quay Saints, and Gosforth Bohemian A lost 3-1 at home to Newcastle Benfield Reserves. Lindisfarne Custom Planet meanwhile went down 6-1 at Ponteland United.
