The top two in the Northern Alliance premier division faced each other on Saturday and Blyth Town came out on top in an end to end match which kicked off in a monsoon and produced ten goals.
North Shields Athletic scored first after three minutes when their Latvian player Maksims Zsborous controlled the ball and rounded the defender and placed it in the corner of the goal beyond the Blyth keeper’s reach.
Within five minutes Town were level when Malcolm Morien scored.
Athletic found themselves behind after Stephen Howes scored after 19 minuted and Blyth increased their lead when their third came on 26 minutes from Scott Pocklington.
Athletic showed their fighting spirit to get back into the game in the 34th minute with Scott Jasper getting their second and then Scott Evans added a third just before the break.
In the second half the goals kept coming and Anth Moran headed Blyth back in front before Scott Jasper pegged them back when he scored Athletic’s fourth and the game’s eighth.
Howes added a fifth for Town and the points were secured two minutes from time when Morien scored his second.
In between the last two goals Athletic came close with Jasper hitting the crossbar.
