North Shields have new opponents in League Cup semi-final

North Shields will be playing Shildon in the Brooks Mileson Memorial League Cup semi-final after Guisborough Town requested to be removed from the competition.

Ten-man Guisborough had defeated title-chasing Shildon in a dramatic quarter-final at the King George V Stadium, equalising in the final minute of the game before Paul Blake’s last-gasp winner.

However, the North Yorkshire outfit notified the Northern League that Jack Bailey, a substitute in the 3-2 victory, had previously played for Thornaby in the second round of the competition, rendering the defender cup-tied and ineligible to play in the Wednesday night tie.

Shields will now face the Railwaymen on Thursday, April 14, at the Daren Persson Stadium, with a place in the final against Marske United or Whitley Bay up for grabs.

North Shields and Shildon have met once already this season, the Railwaymen winning 2-0 at home in October courtesy of goals from Daniel Moore and Paul Connor.
