North Shields Juniors AFC are inviting more girls to join their teams.

The club run girls’ teams from under 10 to under 16 with girls able to get their first taste of football at the club’s Saturday morning Soccer Skills and to play in mixed mini soccer teams from under 7.

The girls section is thriving and have been supported this year with coaching assistance from the Newcastle United FC Foundation.

Girls Section co-ordinator Andy Laurie said: “We aim to provide girls in the area with the opportunity to become involved in football and to develop their skills in a fun environment.

“This year our teams have flourished and with guidance and support from our coaches the girls have been rewarded with success.”

At the Northumberland Girls Football league presentation evening on Sunday the girls were rewarded for their fantastic efforts.

The Under 11 Sharks team won their league in the first season playing football.

The under 12 Amazons were runners up in the first division, with Jessica Brown picking up the league player of the year award.

The under 14 juniors won their league and narrowly missed out on winning the league Shield being beaten in extra time.

The under 16 girls won the league cup and finished second in their league.

The under 15s went knap completing the treble – winning the league, the league cup and then won the under 16 Northumberland FA county cup.
