Percy Main Amateurs prepare for presentation night

On Saturday Northern Alliance first division champions Percy Main Amateurs will host their annual presentation and awards night at neighbouring Percy Main Cricket club, starting at around 7pm.

It has been a superb season for the club, relegated from the league’s premier division only 12 months previous, but which bounced back at the first time of asking to not only re-establish their higher league status, but also clinch their first league championship since 1999 with games to spare, having led the table more or less since the start of the league campaign back in August.

It is hoped that club president and legendary Main player of yesteryear, Ronnie Robinson, will be well enough attend and will present the winners with their trophies.

Among the playing awards up for contention are young player of the year, players’ player, manager’s player, overall player, supporters’ player and the clubman award, while a couple of special awards will be made on the night.

Last season there was a double celebration for midfielder Redmond Cockburn, who scooped both the players’ player and overall player awards.

Ryan McKee took the young player accolade and Chris Laidlaw was voted manager’s player.

The threesome have remained with the club during the past season and will once again be in contention for the awards, but competition is likely to be tough as many have staked their claim during the course of the season.

There will also be a raffle and an auction and all supporters are welcome.
