Past and present players from Whitley Bay and North Shields football clubs turned out on Sunday to help raise money for two local footballing legends.

Supporters at North Shields’ Daren Persson Stadium witnessed a ten-goal spectacular that aided Bay’s FA Vase winner Mark Taylor and Robins’ Wembley hero Tommy Orrick.

Both suffer from Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and need specialist equipment in their homes

A number of Tommy’s cup-winning North Shields teammates of 1969 were at the game which also assisted the RVI MND Centre .

Former Shields and Bay striker Andy Hay, one of Mark’s best friends, helped organise the event and scored one of the goals.

Afterwards he said: “It was a fantastic day.

“I would like to thank the staff at North Shields Football Club and the many others who assisted in making this truly special.

“The generosity of others in supporting these two deserving lads was great to see and the banter amongst everyone was tremendous.”
