Lethal finishing saw North Shields overwhelm Team Northumbria, a first division outfit in the last campaign.

Peter Glen-Ravenhill, against his old club, supplied the perfect flick for Gareth Bainbridge to run onto in the 24th minute and the Northern League’s top marksman made no mistake with his first opportunity.

Glen-Ravenhill got on the scoresheet himself after the break with a scorching drive then Dean Walker put himself forward for an early goal of the season contender with an audacious and meticulous lob from way out wide.

Walker made it 4-0 before the whistle, tucking away a cross from Rob Taylor.

Only two days later the Shieldsmen chalked up another 4-0 verdict when they comfortably saw off Wallsend Boys Club on their own patch.

It was game set and match by half time with midfield terrier Adam Forster, in his first run out, bagging a brace with Dan Smart and Bainbridge also on target.

Following the Wednesday tussle with Blyth Spartans it is onto Percy Main on Saturday (3pm) to contest the Gary Hull Memorial Trophy then seven days later it is the Northern League First Division opener at home to Crook Town.
