Robins look ahead to FA Vase tie

North Shields FC take a break from Northern League action when they entertain AFC Emley in the FA Vase on Saturday.

Kick off at the Daren Persson Stadium is 3pm.

The Robins have reached the First Round after success in the qualifying stages at Northallerton Town (1-0) and at Stokesley (4-2).

Shields’ record in the Vase since their debut in 1994 had seen prior to this season only four wins – three of which were against Hebburn Town.

Last term the Robins won at Silsden before bowing out in extra time after a dramatic replay at Crook Town.

Saturday’s opponents AFC Emley currently top the Northern Counties East First Division – lying second are Pontefract Collieries whom the Shieldsmen beat 1-0 in the FA Cup in August.

The sides have only previously met in the FA Trophy back in 1977 when the Yorkshiremen progressed by 3-1 following a 1-1 draw on Tyneside.
