STILL flying on three cup fronts the Robins, hoping for some knockout action midweek at Washington, resume their league duties at fellow promotion contenders Northallerton on Saturday.
The versatile Femi Akinbolu is only one match away from his 100th appearance for North Shields to join his skipper, and ever present this campaign, Dan Patterson, who passed that milestone in the 6-1 verdict over West Allotment Celtic back in November, in a County Cup tie.
North Shields, who will also welcome back inspirational midfielder Ben Richardson, after his one game ban, have been saddened with the news that striker Andy Hay – he holds the club record (seven) for goals in a game – will not play again this season through injury whilst Scott Blandford has already been side-lined after being carried off in his first match on his return.
Boss Graham Fenton and assistant Andy Bowman are relishing in a run that has brought 15 wins, three draws and only two defeats since they lost 0-2 at home to Northallerton in September.
On Saturday they will look to choose from a squad of: Sean McCafferty, Joe Elliott, Dan Patterson, James Harmison, Femi Akinbolu, Adam Forster, Ben Richardson, Michael McKeown, Paul Watson, Dean Holmes, Rob Nolan, Keith Douglas, Kieran Wrightson, John Hook, Jon Hall, Adam Rowntree, Michael Robinson, Philip Robinson and Stewart Wright.
At Ainderby Road on Saturday (3pm) Shields will be bidding for revenge. Towards the end of last season with Graham Fenton just assuming control, the Robins were trailing 2-0 with only minutes left on the clock but they salvaged a point in a rousing finale.
On Wednesday, February 6 Jarrow Roofing are the visitors to the Daren Persson Stadium (7.30pm), the sides met on the opening day of the season on South Tyneside, Roofing holding on to claim the points after scoring the game’s only goal inside 60 seconds.
