Robins set to face Gateshead in friendly

North Shields begin their pre-season on Saturday when a Gateshead squad visit the Daren Perrson Stadium (3pm).

On Thursday, July 17, the Shieldsmen are at the Brewery Field to take on Spennymoor Town (7.30pm).

The Robins begin their FA Cup adventure on Saturday, August 16, when they entertain Pontefract Collieries of the Northern Counties League Division One in the Extra Preliminary Round.

The sides last met in 1991/2 with Shields winning 3-0 at home thanks to a squad of Bobby Strong, Martin Hamilton, Gary Nicholson, Ian McKenzie, Dave Callaghan, Dave Woodcock, Justin Robson, Tony Burgess, Graeme Jones, Barrie Wardrobe, Ged Parkinson; Subs (Graham Mole, Neil Howie).

Nicholson, Robson and Jones bagged the goals and Wardrobe a brace in the return at the White Rose Stadium – the Robins’ last ever league game in the NCEL.

The winners face a trip to the seaside and a tough test at Scarborough Athletic who play at Bridlington and who ended the last campaign in seventh position in the EVO-STIK NPL Division One South but will be switching to the North Division in the coming season.

In the FA Vase its former Northern League Division Two colleagues Northallerton Town, away on Saturday, September 6, the First Qualifying Round and if successful a tie at Stokesley at the next stage.
